[Site News] Goodbye The Pro Wrestling Nerd and Hello Pro Wrestling Update

pwu

After eight awesome months, I’m shutting The Pro Wrestling Nerd down for good. Ever since starting this site back in July I have seen my readership grow, my writing improve, and more importantly I have seen the way I take in wrestling grow and evolve. And with this growth it’s time to change gears and start something new. Next month my new site, Pro Wrestling Update, will launch and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Although still a one man operation at this point (I don’t accept free labor), Pro Wrestling Update presents a shift in the way I’m going to do things; this site represents wrestling journalism and commentary the way I want to see it done: without all the tabloid gossip, spoiler reporting, and the dirtier aspects of the industry that continue to make the pro wrestling media irrelevant in many people’s eyes. At Pro Wrestling Update, you’ll still find news, recaps/reviews, features, all sorts of wrestling site staples but the news reporting will be relevant and will not rely on misleading headlines or female wrestlers in skimpy outfits for hits. Pro Wrestling Update is for the wrestling fan who wants to be informed and entertained without being insulted.

Right now I’m still working out the kinks, but make sure to bookmark Pro Wrestling Update for future reference. It’s just a landing page right now but the site is all but set to go live Wrestlemania 29 weekend. You can also follow me on Twitter for more site-related announcements (or general wrestling blather) and “like” the new PWUpdate Facebook page which will kick into gear once the site does. As for The Pro Wrestling Nerd…the site will stay up as long as WordPress (and the internet) exists so feel free to scope through the archives to get a handle on my writing style. Hopefully you’ll dig it and follow me over to my new digs.

The end is truly the beginning and I cannot be more thrilled.

[TV Report] WWE ‘Raw’ Recap + Commentary – 2/25/2013

raw-recap

This week RAW comes to us live from Dallas, TX and it’s looking like it’s going to be a stacked show, between the John Cena/CM Punk main event, the Vince McMahon/Paul Heyman “fight”, and potentially an appearance by a certain “Deadman”. Let the build to Wrestlemania 29 continue…or something.

Click “read more” for a live recap of the show as it airs, or click “read more” later when it’s not so live and you’re looking to catch up. Just click it either way, please.

[WWE News] The Rock Debuts New WWE Championship on ‘Raw’

After eight long years, the Spinner Belt is no more as champion The Rock debuted a brand-new belt to go along with his brand-new title reign (a month after he won it but still). The early response on Twitter was overwhelmingly negative, including yours truly, but now that I’ve had time to digest it I have made peace with it. The lack of a nameplate is sad and the black leather background will take some getting used to, but it looks like a proper championship again instead of a vanity belt that has overstayed its welcome. It’s a step in the right direction and I’m already 100% less embarrassed by it as a fan.

Got any thoughts? Chime in on the comments section.

Fresh off the Elimination Chamber, the march to Wrestlemania XXIX began on this President’s Day edition of RAW. On this week’s show John Cena confronted his former nemesis CM PunkChris Jericho attempted to take down The Shield alongside Ryback and Sheamus, and WWE Champion The Rock celebrated his victory last night not only with a marching band…but with a brand spankin’ new WWE Championship belt.

[WWE News] Wrestlemania XXX Date and Location Officially Announced

wm30 logo

In a press conference held earlier in the day WWE officially announced that the 30th edition of its flagship event Wrestlemania will take place on April 7, 2014 from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Joining Mayor Mitch Landrieu for the big announcement were Chairman Vince McMahonJohn Cena, Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, The Rock, Alberto Del Rio, The Big Show, Mark Henry, The Great Khali, Brodus ClayThe Funkadactyls, and Layla. To watch the entire conference, click the link provided earlier in the article.

Being that New Orleans has long been rumored to be the location this probably doesn’t come as much of a shock to anyone who bfrequents the bevy of news sites on the internet. But it’s still nice to finally have it be official. And much respect to the WWE for keeping the Roman numerals for the official logo; it’s going to be unfortunate when this time next year everyone is going to make the “LOL TRIPLE X MEANS PORN” joke. Be prepared.

[TV Results] TNA ‘IMPACT Wrestling’ – 2/14/2013

impact-wrestling-logo2

The road to Lockdown officially began on the Valentine’s Day edition of IMPACT Wrestling as GM Hulk Hogan announced that eight men would vie for a shot at World Champion Jeff Hardy next month…curiously enough they didn’t include Hogan’s own son in-law. Also on the show contestants from British Bootcamp made their TNA debut and a Knockouts Title match was made for next week.

[WWE News] ‘Elimination Chamber’ 2013 Preview; Lineup + Predictions

ec2013

The march to Wrestlemania 29 makes a pit stop in New Orleans this Sunday as WWE presents Elimination Chamber. With a big main event and a star-studded Elimination Chamber match it’s definitely looking more like a must-buy than most non-big four WWE PPV’s.

[TV Results] WWE ‘Raw’ – 2/11/2013

new-raw_600

With one week to go until Elimination Chamber, this episode of Raw was all about building to this Sunday’s PPV…in between all of the filler. On this week’s show the final spots in the Elimination Chamber match were filled, Jack Swagger debuted a potentially awesome manager/mouthpiece, Paul Heyman and CM Punk have an emotional moment, and WWE Champion The Rock returned to hype up his match this Sunday and, erm, tell a story about a Nashville crackhead he bought a car from.

[TNA News] Jeff Hardy Signs For Two More Years; More ‘IMPACT Wrestling’ Dates Announced

jeff hardy tna champ

Source = IMPACT Wrestling

To keep the cross-pollination going between the two shows, TNA President Dixie Carter appeared on the MMA show Bellator to drop some news about TNA. First, and most important I’d argue, Carter announced that their World Champion Jeff Hardy has signed on for an additional two years locking him up and preventing him from making the jump to the WWE without having ever lost the title. A very smart move on TNA’s part to sign Hardy as he continues to be a license to print money for them, no matter how much some of us hope he loses the title soon (maybe now that the contract is signed…).

In addition to this big news, Carter also announced some new IMPACT Wrestling dates and locations. They are as follows:

  • March 28 in Jonesboro, Arkansas at the ASU Convocation Center
  • April 11 in Corpus Christi, Texas at the American Bank Center
  • June 6 in Duluth, Georgia at the Gwinnett Center

Two decent-sized news bites for Carter to break on Bellator and more importantly I’m glad the MMA fans now also get to suffer this forced co-promotion between the two.
