[ROH News] New Video Provider Announced

Ring of Honor announced today they have signed an agreement with online video platform Ooyala for all of their internet video content going forward (iPPV, TV episodes, etc.). This new format will take effect starting this Sunday with the Final Battle iPPV and over the next month the company’s backlog of iPPVs and TV show episodes will migrate over to this service. Here are the features of Ooyala which should sound appetizing to some viewers.

  • Faster Load Times
  •  Adaptive Bitrate Streaming across all devices to ensure the smoothest, highest quality stream on PC’s, iPads, iPhones, android tablets, laptops, etc. No more buffering!
  • Live DVR functionality for internet pay per views – Fans will be able to used DVR functions during live streamed events. This means if someone joins late, they can begin watching from the beginning, skip to a later time, or even jump to Live just like they would on their television.
  •  Instant Availability of Replays – Once the live event is over, fans will be able to watch the replay immediately. No more waiting!

The last item mentioned is the one I’m most excited about personally; since I usually work on iPPV days, being able to watch the replay of the show when I get home instead of having to wait a day or so for ROH to put it up is a definite plus. After the year ROH has had in the iPPV realm, here’s hoping Ooyala is the service that will soothe all concerns and allow for a much more reliable product going forward. Now if ROH would only take off the one year cap on purchased iPPVs…

[ROH News] Steen/Generico Ladder War IV to Headline ‘Final Battle 2012’

I was going to wait for the show to actually air, but since ROH just spoiled it via press release (and a post on their official site) I guess I’ll just suck it up and post it now. During the final TV tapings of 2012 last week, new ROH matchmaker Nigel McGuinness announced the main event for the company’s final iPPV of the year Final Battle. The main event will pit Kevin Steen against his former partner turned hated rival El Generico for the ROH World Heavyweight Title…in a “Ladder War”. This is the sort of match that both men are very familiar in, having battled in 75% of them back when they were tag team partners, and adding this stipulation to their match at Final Battleis insanely poetic. Those paying attention to ROH are undoubtedly not surprised at Generico making his return to ROH to face his former partner as their last iPPV, Glory by Honor XI,ended with Steen ominously being delivered a Generico mask. Generico’s last match for ROH happened back at Showdown in the Sun earlier this year, a losing effort against Steen in a Last Man Standing match.

Speaking as merely a casual ROH fan (yes they exist), the Steen/Generico main event just sold me on getting the iPPV. I love both men’s work and their blood feud is one of the few standout storylines the company has had in the past few years. This is going to be a bloodbath and I can’t f*cking wait.

Final Battle 2012 comes at you live from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on December 16, 2012. Purchase your tickets here.

[ROH News] Final 2012 TV Taping Scheduled for Tonight in Pennsylvania; All ROH Titles to be Defended

Tonight Ring of Honor holds its final TV tapings of 2012 at the Rostraver Ice Garden in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania. This is going to be a big show, as these episodes will serve at the lead in for one of ROH’s biggest events of the year Final Battle.

  • Adam Cole (c) Vs. Kyle O’Reilly for the ROH Television Title
  • S.C.U.M. (Steve Corino/Jimmy Jacobs) (c) Vs. Rhett Titus/BJ Whitmer
  • Michael Elgin Vs. Davey Richards
  • The Briscoes (Jay Briscoe/Mark Briscoe) Vs. The Headbangers (Mosh/Thrasher)
  • Tadarius Thomas Vs. Roderick Strong
  • MsChif Vs. Allysin Kay
  • Caprice Coleman/Cedric Alexander Vs. Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin/Charlie Haas)
  • Adam Page Vs. QT Marshall [w/ RD Evans)

Other talent scheduled to appear include:

  • Prince Nana
  • Jay Lethal
  • Mike Mondo (who is currently out with a broken tibula)
  • The Bravados (Lancelot Bravado/Harlem Bravado)
  • Bobby Fish

If you live in the Belle Vernon area, you still have time to purchase tickets. For the rest of us, it’s going to be an interesting night of TV tapings to keep an eye on. I wonder what the Final Battle card will look like at the end of the night. And here’s hoping they change up the look of the TV show given the fact they have a chance to run in a completely different venue with a completely different crowd.

In other ROH news, this weekend marks their final TV tapings in Baltimore, MD for 2012 and they are planning to go out with a bang by bringing back its yearly event “Survival of the Fittest”. 12 men would wrestle one another in qualifying matches, with the six winners going on to a six-way elimination match. ROH has been holding “Survival of the Fittest” since 2004. Previous winners include Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan in the WWE), Chris Hero (Kassius Ohno in WWE/NXT), Tyler Black (Seth Rollins in WWE/NXT), and Elgin who won last year and is in the running to win once again this year.

“Survival of the Fittest” kicks off this Saturday during the Baltimore, MD TV tapings and if you’re in the area you can purchase your tickets by clicking here. For the rest of us, we’ll have to wait to see how the tournament unfolds on ROH TV…or be cheap and seek out spoilers this weekend. Either way.
