[TNA News] Are You a DirecTV Subscriber? (Potentially) Say Goodbye to TNA! *[UPDATED: 7/11/12]*

News Update (7/11/12): At midnight, Viacom officially parted ways with DirecTV. Turns out even the Hulkster himself couldn’t save this from happening. DirecTV and Viacom are continuing discussions so hopefully this will work itself out. The following article was written before it was official.

Every year it seems like TV networks and service providers get into a bidding war over rights and fees; a network will ask for more money and the provider will balk at having to pay a higher premium. From there outrage ensues, petitions are signed, and either deals are made or programming is lost. The latest war is between satellite provider DirecTV and Viacom, one of the largest TV corporations in the country if not the biggest. Viacom is looking to increase their revenue by charging higher fee rights for their stable of channels and DirecTV is not looking to indulge. If no deal is reached, all Viacom channels go black at midnight and the millions of DirectTV users will lose a chunk of the programming they pay for (or surf right through to get to the stuff they actually want to watch).

Why does this matter to you, you sassy rasslin’ fan you? Because one of the networks owned by Viacom is SpikeTV, home of Impact Wrestling. Naturally TNA is not excited to lose a chunk of potential viewers 10 hours from now and have sprung into action on their official website with Hulk Hogan himself imploring DirectTV subscribers/TNA fans to call the company and beg them not to drop Viacom programming (also if you like Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, or any of the other 20+ channels they own). We’ll see in 10 hours if it works or not.

Thoughts: I don’t have DirectTV but I’m tempted to call myself. Impact Wrestling is finally getting watchable again and for them to get dealt this harsh of a blow is pretty unfair and downright cruel. Plus who wants a TV service monopolized by WWE programming? Variety is the spice of life! If you can, call 1-800-531-5000 and complain until you’re blue in the face. I don’t know if it’ll end up working, but I can always hope. Maybe the South Park fans will convince them if the wrestling fans fail.

[ROH News] Tag Team Titles Vacated; Tournament to Begin Next TV Taping

Source: ROH Wrestling

Last month at Best in the World, The All-Night Express (Kenny King/Rhett Titus) defeated Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin/Charlie Haas) to become the new Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions. With the belts finally in their grasps after years of coming up short, it seemed like sky was now the limit for ANX. Unfortunately, however, that didn’t seem to be the case. King soon made his debut for TNA at Impact Wrestlingwhich caused the wrestling community to scratch their heads in confusion; how could someone signed to ROH appear on a TNA show? It turned out that King’s contract had expired, and the two parties were working on a verbal agreement, which both sides have argued for and against. Either way long story short, King is now permanently banished from ROH and Titus is left without a partner.

And without a partner, Titus can’t defend the Tag Team Titles so today on their website, ROH officially vacated the Tag Team Titles. The titles will now be up for grabs in an 8 team tournament that begins at the August 3rd taping of their syndicated television show and conclude at an unspecified time. Along with this news, ROH also announced the first participants: The Briscoes (Jay Briscoe/Mark Briscoe), 7-time ROH Tag Champs and the most iconic team in the company’s history. ROH will announce the remaining seven teams over the next few weeks on their official website leading up to the TV taping. Expect Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team to be involved and potentially Titus entering the fray with a new partner.

Thoughts: The Kenny King situation is very unfortunate for Ring of Honor and especially for Rhett Titus, whose role in the company was defined by The All-Night Express. Alas them’s the breaks and although King’s exit comes off very unprofessional and suspect (even if he was right to do so), it’s time to roll with the punches. It should be interesting to see if ROH goes with a newer tag team or if they let King’s departure scaring them into putting the belts back on either the Briscoes or WGTT. To be fair it’s not like they have any other options really, but both teams are overexposed. There needs to be some new blood…hopefully new blood that won’t hightail it to another company this time.

[TV Recap] WWE Raw Supershow – 7/9/2012

We begin with a recap of the end of last week’s Raw, where A.J. sent CM Punk flying through a table (and Daniel Bryan) on the outside. We then cut to last week’s live Smackdown, where Punk and Bryan try to win A.J. over. She kisses both of them, leaving her true loyalties up in the air.

We are live in Denver, Colorado at the Pepsi Center. A.J. skips her way down the entrance ramp and into the ring. The crowd is mixed in their reaction. A.J. talks about how she’ll be the special guest referee this Sunday at Money in the Bank for the Punk/Bryan WWE Championship match and how her actions can affect the outcome. She says the thought of that is making her feel overwhelmed and emotional. A.J. asks the crowd to help her welcome out WWE Champion CM Punk. “Cult of Personality” hits and out comes the champion. Michael Cole fills the home audience on her actions again last week, once again proving that wrestling really is a male soap opera, cliches be damned.

Punk has a mic of his own. Punk asks A.J. why she called him out to the ring. A.J. says that last Friday (erm, Tuesday) on Smackdown, she said that Punk showed his true colors by calling her mentally unstable; she says she’s in full control of her mental faculties at all times. But she says no one has ever cared about her or shown the compassion he has towards her, and she knew what she had to do after she kissed him. She complements his eyes (the crowd boos immensely), saying they “send love straight into my heart” and that Punk fills her up with passion, desire, and essence (WHAT?!?). A.J. says Punk turns her on. A “YES!” chant starts breaking out in the crowd. A.J. backs away, gets down on one knee, and proposes to him. The look on Punk’s face is priceless, and the crowd cheers him on to say yes.
