[WWE News] Final Announced ‘Summerslam 2012’ Card + Predictions

Tonight, WWE presents their annual end of summer event Summerslam live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Check out the final announced card for tonight’s big PPV as well as my predictions for each match after the jump!

Triple H Vs. Brock Lesnar (w/ Paul Heyman)

  • Prediction: Brock Lesnar (Despite the fact that the past few weeks of TV have signaled that Trips will come out the victor, this match is harder to call than you would think. It could honestly be either guy and for that alone, I give much respect to the WWE. If I were to wager though, I think Brock will end up victorious; he “needs” the win more than Trips does in order to maintain the aura of being a monster and to sell future PPV matches. Had Lesnar beaten Cena at Extreme Rules, this would’ve been a different story. But no matter who comes out the victor, this is going to be one hell of a match.)

CM Punk (c) Vs. John Cena Vs. The Big Show in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship

  • Prediction: CM Punk (Although WWE loves throwing curveballs whenever fans start to figure out where they’re going, I think that the possibility of a Punk/Rock match at Royal Rumble is too much to pass up. And in order to make that match have that much more meaning, Punk needs to keep the belt by any means necessary. Punk will retain tonight, but in doing so, he will officially go full-blown heel. And for those of you betting on The Big Show, you might as well just pay up now because that is not going to happen.)

Sheamus (c) Vs. Alberto Del Rio (w/ Ricardo Rodriguez) for the World Heavyweight Championship

  • Prediction: Sheamus (This has been one lackluster of a feud to be honest, and I’m glad to see it done. And while Del Rio as champion would be interesting, he’s just not nearly as over as he needs to be in order to be a convincing World Champion. Sheamus, regardless of what we smarks think, is. He’ll retain…but the question is will he still walk out of Summerslam the champion or will a certain Money in the Bank winner cash it in immediately after? Hmmm.)

Chris Jericho Vs. Dolph Ziggler (w/ Vickie Guerrero)

  • Prediction: Dolph Ziggler (Mark this date on your calendar folks, because this is the night that Ziggler finally ascends to the top of the card for good…or at least longer than Jack Swagger. This is going to be an excellent hard-fought contest, but in the end Ziggler will be the victor and Jericho will have made a superstar. As great as Lesnar/Trips will be, this is the match I’m looking forward to.)

Kane Vs. Daniel Bryan

  • Prediction: Daniel Bryan (Bryan may in fact be the most over person in the WWE right now judging by fan response, and having him lose to Kane when their feud has not been all that fleshed out seems like a dumb move. Considering Bryan has lost a lot on TV lately, that also points to him getting a win at the PPV. However if Kane wins I won’t be surprised, if only because it would be another reason for Bryan to go even crazier. GM AJ Lee could also get potentially involved in this match as well and cost him the win, so keep an eye out for that. But out of pure wishing and wanting, I think Bryan will take this and continue to get even more over…hopefully without involving Charlie Sheen like they’ve threatened to do in the past.)

The Miz (c) Vs. Rey Mysterio for the WWE Intercontinental Title

  • Prediction: The Miz (Ever since winning the IC Title, Miz has been made to look like a fool and I think that stops tonight with a win over the super over Mysterio. Mysterio beat him in a non-title match on an edition of Smackdown sure, but that looks to have been a way to make Miz seem vulnerable to the master of the “619”. Miz will get the victory and retain due to some underhanded tactics and the attempted rebuild of the IC Title will continue. Hopefully. Fingers crossed.)

Kofi Kingston/R-Truth (c) Vs. The Prime Time Players (Darren Young/Titus O’Neil) for the WWE Tag Team Titles

  • Prediction: Kingston/R-Truth (A few weeks ago I would have definitely picked The Prime Time Players to go over, but with A.W.’s release I think the team has lost a substantial part of their gimmick and they need time to rebuild. Kingston/R-Truth will retain the belts for now, and I think they may end up feuding with Primo/Epico next. As for The Prime Time Players, I hope they will get a second shot after a gimmick retooling.)

[Summerslam Pre-Show] Santino Marella (c) Vs. Antonio Cesaro (w/ Aksana) for the WWE United States Championship

  • Prediction: Antonio Cesaro (Cesaro has been made to look very strong over the past few weeks and already holds a series of wins over Marella. I think it’s time for Santino to drop the belt and let the U.S. Title go to someone who can make it into something with more prestige as opposed to having it be a prop for a comedy wrestler. Fingers crossed. Really hard.)

Considering I largely favor the heels for tonight’s event, I assume that most of my Summerslam picks will be dead wrong, but here’s hoping the major ones (Lesnar, Ziggler, Cesaro) are right on the money. I also fully expect more matches to be added to the event (meaning Ryback shows up to squash somebody, essentially) so those won’t be counted. I think Summerslam has the potential to be one hell of a PPV and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can pull out of the hat. I will also be covering the event LIVE on this very website, so feel free to stop by tonight and read the recap!
